Over the last few weeks, we have been deriving our entrepreneurial motivation and inspiration from watching the 2023 NFL season. This week was no exception! The stakes were high when it came to the Baltimore Ravens and the Jacksonville Jaguars, both fighting to keep their position or to advance to the next level. As entrepreneurs we often feel the pressure to do more or to be more. Especially when it comes to content creation because that is the work that many will see regardless of if they purchase your product or service.
It is also the area where we will receive the most feedback. The feedback from critics is unreal! They suggest and sometimes demand that you should do this or that, but back to our examples.
The Baltimore Ravens, who remain the number one seed of the AFC, taught us during their Week 15 victory that when we plan well, we will increase our chances of reaching our goals. The excitement for their next game grows as the AFC and NFC #1 seeds will face each other on Christmas day.
Speaking of highly anticipated events, the New England Patriots announced this week that they will be making some changes to their coaching staff. After 24 seasons, the controversial, The New England Patriots has decided to part ways with their long -term head coach, Bill Belichick. Over the years the team and the coaching staff have been accused of having poor work ethics and lacking integrity.
The Philadelphia Eagles were a causality of the New England Patriots during Super Bowl XXXIX, back in 2005. The Patriots were unstoppable until 2017, when they face the Eagles again in Super Bowl LII. During the 2023 NFL season the Eagles appeared to be on track for another super bowl, but unfortunately, they lost three games straight (the 49ers, Cowboys, and Seahawks). The Eagles lost bragging rights after the Dallas Cowboys defeated them during week 14. Their loss was a win for the 49ers who were the beneficiary of the NFC #1 seed.
This time against the Seattle Seahawks resulting in the Eagles having a 10-4 record and moving them further and further away from having an advantage in the playoffs. The game was full of lessons such as: excuses are a projection of self-doubt onto others, how we must work hard to stay victorious, and how one mishap can alter the course of our success. In entrepreneurship, sometime the mishaps seem like a landmine, and it may feel like we are constantly rebranding.
Rebranding too often can make our customers feel like Philadelphia Eagles fans who are fed up with the weekly emotional roller-coaster and have taken to social media to “bad mouth” the team. However, prior to the start of their matchup with the Seahawks, Eagles fans were found taunting Cowboy fans online; since the Cowboys lost against the Bills, 10-31, after coming off a win against the Eagles, 33-13, the week prior. These games remind us that great victories and great defeats are all a part of playing the game.
