National Entrepreneurship Month: Building Structure, Stability, and Success

November 3, 2025

Every November, we celebrate National Entrepreneurship Month to recognize and honor the visionaries who make a difference in the communities that they serve while following their dreams. Entrepreneurs are the driving force of our economy, stimulating growth, creating jobs, and inspiring progress across industries. In 2011, President Barack Obama created National Entrepreneurship Month to showcase the contributions of entrepreneurs.

During Entrepreneurship Month, we celebrate the courage it took to start a business and the discipline and structure it takes to sustain and grow a business. Between 2020 and 2024, 20 million new business applications were submitted across the United States, a record-breaking number that reflects a growing shift toward self-employment. In 2025, at a time when many Americans are facing economic uncertainty, the business landscape continues to change in unexpected ways.

The second-largest private employer in the United States, Amazon, cut 14,000 corporate jobs while investing $10 billion in artificial intelligence (AI) technology. According to Amazon’s leadership, these operational and strategic decisions are designed to position the company as “the world’s largest startup,” since this is a new business model for a company this size.  Adapting to change and optimizing operations are essential to long-term survival in any industry.

Michaels began selling balloons when Party City suddenly closed their doors, leaving both a gap in the market and countless employees without jobs, forcing them to seek stability through other means such as entrepreneurship. While motivation and enthusiasm can be a great starting point, many new entrepreneurs quickly discover that passion alone cannot keep a business thriving. Creating a business that stands the test of time requires structure, consistency, and the ability to adapt to a rapidly evolving market. Operational systems, administrative organization, and strategic planning are what transform an idea into a profitable and lasting business.

One of the most effective ways to strengthen your business operations is by developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure that daily tasks are completed consistently and efficiently, making it easier to train new team members, maintain quality standards, and pinpoint opportunities for improvement. Time management is another challenge that many business-owners face. Entrepreneurs often juggle multiple roles such as marketer, bookkeeper, administrator, and service provider, all while striving to maintain balance and profitability. Trying to manage every aspect of your business alone can lead to burnout and decreased productivity.

Collaboration and community are key to lasting success, so you don’t have to navigate business ownership alone. Entrepreneurship Month reminds us to keep building and to support others on their entrepreneurial journey. This month also serves as a powerful reminder that entrepreneurship is about more than financial gain; it’s about creating impact, leaving a legacy, and building something that strengthens the industry and uplifts others.
